Effects of the in-group art therapy on enhancing self-esteem and sociality of chronic schizophrenia patients

Abstract
This study is to observe the changes in patients with low self-esteem and sociality deficit due to chronic schizophrenia during the course of art therapy, and to clarify the effects in enhancing self-esteem and sociality with the introduction of the therapeutic program. The researched matters were as follows; 1) How does the in-group art therapeutic program influence a self-esteem of chronic schizophrenia patients ? 2) How does the in-group art therapeutic program influence an improvement of sociality for chronic schizophrenia patients ? To prove these matters, KHTP was applied and compared with analyses; 12 rounds of art therapeutic programs were done with qualitative analyses of the changes in patients and their drawings in each round. As a result of therapy, it reduced self-defensiveness and initiated self-opening with its artistic activities, and facilitate natural interaction among the patients and reduced individual burden with the initiation of team works. Additionally, the work results gave some sense of personal fulfillment, thus clarified some positive effectiveness on the improvement of self-esteem and sociality in the patients.
